Dr. Todd Costantini is Chief of the Division of Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery, and Vice Chair for Clinical Quality in the Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Dr. Costantini runs an active translational research program in both clinical and basic science that has resulted in over 190 peer-reviewed publications. He has an NIH-funded basic research laboratory that aims to understand the biology of human inflammation after injury, focusing on regulation of anti-inflammatory pathways mediating the immune response to injury. His clinical research focuses on optimizing venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis for injured patients and optimizing treatment pathways for patients with severe pelvic fracture. Dr. Costantini has held several national leadership positions including Chair of the Multi-institutional Trials Committee for the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Council for the Coalition for National Trauma Research (CNTR). Dr. Costantini is an elected member of the Central Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons and currently leads the Trauma Protocols Repository workgroup for the COT. Dr. Costantini currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.
