Dr. Alex hill graduated manga cum laude with a ba in biology from gustavus adolphus college in 1997, received a ms in biomedical engineering from the university of minnesota in 2000, and a phd in biomedical engineering from the university of minnesota in january 2004, where he currently serves as an adjunct assistant professor in the department of surgery.  In graduate school, he studied large mammalian comparative cardiac anatomy and physiology, as well as biomedical device design and testing; additionally, he worked on the visible hearttm preparation in dr. Paul iaizzos laboratory.  Dr. Hill joined medtronic in sept. 2003 and worked for three years at the research laboratory, serving as an animal model consultant, anatomist, and developing techniques for infarct assessment using mri.  He joined medtronic structural heart in 2006 and was heavily involved in transcatheter valve research and development for 10 years.  In 2011, he was named a technical fellow at medtronic for his expertise and leadership in cardiac anatomy and device characterization, specifically utilizing non-invasive imaging.  In 2015, he was awarded a fellowship in the bakken society, medtronics highest technical honor.  He was named an industrial fellow in the institute for engineering in medicine at the university of mn in 2016.  He is currently a sr. Product development program director in cardiac ablation solutions at medtronic, focused on new product development.  He has published numerous journal articles and textbook chapters, co-edited a textbook on heart valve design and implantation, and has 18 granted patents and numerous patent applications.
